During the same period in 2009, individual counties in the United States with the highest number of victims of pit bull attacks were:

  1. Allegheny, PA (8)
  2. Essex, MA and Dallas, TX (each with 7)
  3. Cook, IL, Marion, IN, Clark, NV and Salt Lake, UT (each with 6).

Number of Registered Dangerous Dogs in Pennsylvania

As of July 2009, according to Department of Agriculture figures, 403 dogs have been deemed “dangerous” in Pennsylvania since 2005. The dangerous dogs list includes dogs that have severely injured a human, that have killed other dogs or cats off their owner’s property, and dogs that have been used in the commission of a crime.

Of the registered dangerous dogs, 166 (41%) of the “dangerous dogs” are pit bulls or rottweilers.
